A Warm Memory

William Burtch's avatar William Burtch November 8, 2019

Seems so very long ago but a memory of sunny rounds of as a member of the Ohio State University at Marion Golf Team as found me. This appeared in the Marion (OH) Star back in May of 1979!:

“Local Ohio State University Golf Squad Places 3rd

The Ohio State University at Marion (OSUM) golfers of Coach Dave Saunders wound up in third place at the 11-team Ohio State Regional Campuses Golf Championship at the Mayfield Country Club in North Canton on Saturday. Miami University-Middletown won the two-day tourney win a 596 total, followed by OSU Newark 600, Ohio State University at Marion 609, Wooster ATI 620, Kent State Trumbell 626, Kent State Stark 627, Kent State Tuscarawas 629, OSU Lima 653, OSU Mansfield 655, Kent State Ashtabula 684 and Ohio University Lancaster 712.

Steve Dalton of Miami University-Middletown was the tourney medalist 72-70 – 142, while in a four-way tie for second OSUM golfer Phil Bailey 71-76 – 147, Jeff Starky of Wooster ATI 73-74 – 147, Kent Stevens of Miami 71-76 – 147, and Joe Allen of Kent Tuscarawas 78-69 – 147.

Other scores for Ohio State University at Marion golfers were: Greg McFann 75-73 – 148, Bill Gurr 72-77 – 149, Bill Burtch 86-79 – 165 and Rob Kantzer 80-88 – 168. Saturday’s play ended the season for the OSUM squad.”

American Fiction Volume 17 (New Rivers Press) is now available where you buy/order your books. Honored to have my story The Owls of El Centro in this long-running anthology series. It is a tale of the pain that alcohol dependency and narcissistic tendencies bring to families and particularly to a fragile but hopeful father and son relationship. Set in a harsh and indifferent environment. I hope you check it out!
